About WhyNotDoc.com

We've spent 35 years
building the internet.
Now we're protecting it.

Our team has been inside the infrastructure that powers modern healthcare long before cloud vendors started charging you to rent it back. We know exactly where the vulnerabilities are because we helped build the systems they exploit.

Our story starts in the early days of competitive telecom when Texas was just beginning to wire itself for the internet age. Our team was there, building the state's first competitive access provider, laying fiber optic networks, and deploying SONET rings, Frame Relay, and ATM infrastructure for wholesale carriers and enterprise clients across the state.

We expanded nationally, leading the development of cutting-edge IP switching infrastructures. We played a central role in commercializing the global internet shaping how IP-based services were integrated into the fabric of American business. We've been inside the biggest networks in the world.

After years at the highest levels of telecom infrastructure, our team came back together with a singular focus: taking what we know about enterprise-grade infrastructure and making it available to the businesses that need it most including the medical practices across Texas that have been left exposed by cloud vendors who prioritize convenience over security.

We built WhyNotDoc.com because we kept seeing the same story play out practices losing patient data, paying ransoms, facing HIPAA audits all because their most critical systems were sitting on someone else's server. We knew there was a better way. We'd built it before.

The cloud wasn't built
for your practice.

We've spent decades inside the infrastructure that cloud vendors run on. We know how it works and more importantly, we know exactly where it fails.

When we looked at how medical practices across Texas were storing their most sensitive data patient records, billing systems, staff credentials we saw an industry that had traded security for convenience and was paying the price.

Ransomware attacks on healthcare reached all-time highs in 2024. Practices were paying millions in ransoms and HIPAA fines. And the cloud vendors? They kept raising their prices and shifting the liability back to the doctors.

We decided to do something about it. WhyNotDoc.com was built to give Texas medical practices the same infrastructure protection that Fortune 500 companies and government agencies use at a price that makes sense for a medical practice.

"We built the highways the cloud runs on. We know every on-ramp, every off-ramp, and every place a threat actor can slip through. That knowledge is exactly what we use to protect your practice."

The WhyNotDoc Team

A team built for this.

35+ years of combined experience across telecom infrastructure, enterprise cybersecurity, healthcare IT, and DoD-grade command and control systems. This isn't a startup this is a team that has been inside the infrastructure that runs the modern world.

Years combined experience
Across telecom infrastructure, enterprise cybersecurity, and healthcare IT our team has seen and solved every layer of the problem.
100%
Texas focused
We serve Texas medical practices exclusively. We know this market, these regulations, and these roads. We're not a national vendor we're your neighbors.
24/7

Our security operations team monitors every client environment around the clock. Threats are identified and neutralized before they become your problem.

Telecom infrastructure veterans

We built Texas's first competitive access provider and helped commercialize the global internet. We know infrastructure from the ground up.

Cybersecurity operations specialists

Our security team operates using the same C6ISRT command and control architecture trusted by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Healthcare IT professionals

We understand HIPAA, EHR systems, and the unique compliance pressures facing medical practices. Our solutions are built for healthcare, not adapted for it.

Deep Texas roots

From the Panhandle to the Gulf Coast we've been building and protecting Texas infrastructure for over three decades. This state is our home.

The people protecting
your practice.

Our technology team combines deep cybersecurity expertise with hands-on healthcare infrastructure experience. These are the people watching your shelf.

Dr. James E. Hrubes, Ph.D.
Chief Technology & Infrastructure Security Officer
Doctoral Scientist  ·  Command & Control Operations  ·  Strategic Infrastructure

James leads WhyNotDoc's Command and Control operations — the nerve center that monitors, manages, and coordinates protection across every client environment we operate. His specialty is ensuring seamless communication and response between technology systems, security operations, and multidisciplinary experts across strategic assets, infrastructure, and facilities.

Using advanced command and control architecture, James and his team maintain direct interface with specialists across every layer of client infrastructure — from network hardware and server environments to physical facility security and regulatory compliance. When a threat is detected at 3am, James's C&C framework ensures the right people and systems respond within minutes, not hours.

His approach is built on the same doctrine used to coordinate complex multi-unit operations in high-stakes environments: clear chains of command, real-time situational awareness, and protocols that hold up under pressure. That rigor is what separates a monitored practice from a protected one.

B.S. Cybersecurity

Daniel leads WhyNotDoc's security architecture, infrastructure design, and all client technology deployments. He began his career in cybersecurity before graduating — running vulnerability assessments and penetration tests for SMB clients while still completing his degree — and joined WhyNotDoc full-time the day he walked off stage.

At WhyNotDoc he designed the private-shelf security framework from the ground up: the zero-trust segmentation model, the 24/7 monitoring and threat response protocol, and the HIPAA-hardened migration playbook that has moved dozens of Texas practices off the cloud with zero data loss and zero compliance violations.

Daniel operates under the direct oversight of Dr. James E. Hrubes, ensuring every security architecture decision and client deployment aligns with WhyNotDoc's command and control standards. That chain of accountability is what keeps client environments airtight.
